Off-page SEO for Beginners

by Besjona Morina on 3rd March 2023

In marketing, you are always looking for the best and new things to try out and learn about to help your sites rank higher and do better. Learning and trying out off-page SEO has been a struggle for me; however, I have learnt a lot along the way. It was a new experience for me as I had never heard of it or come across it before. Even though there is so much more I need to learn about and try, I wanted to share some tips with other beginners who are just starting with marketing or off-page SEO.

What is off-page SEO?

You may already be familiar with on-page SEO; well, off-page SEO is similar. The main difference is that the optimisation is not done on your site but off-site, and the main goal is to get links back to your site, which is why it is essential to invest time into off-page SEO as it will help your site rank higher in search and give your page more authority. There are different ways you can do this, for example, guest blogging, business directories, social media, broken link building and many more.

Why are links important for off-page SEO?

Links play a significant role in off-page SEO. They are one of the most important things to consider when doing off-page SEO. The more sites that link to your page, the better. Doing this will show Google that your site has a good reputation and will rank your page higher in the search results. However, you should be aware that the page your site is gaining its link from should also be a site with a high authority score to ensure you’re earning a good link to your site. The authority score of a site shows you how much weight a link from their site to yours is.

Expect off-page SEO to be a long process, and results will take time to happen – Know that off-page SEO is challenging and usually takes time. It will take time to achieve results. I recommend working on it daily or weekly to keep up the momentum and achieve your desired results.

You may not get the results you were looking for; however, you probably will get some results, for example, more awareness of your business, especially if you’re adding your business to different directories.

Work out which technique is best for you and your business – Not all off-page SEO techniques will suit you and your business, which is completely fine. However, it is essential to research and find out which method will work for you.

Try and learn about different techniques – If you need help deciding what method to use, you can always try it to see if it fits you. Or if one strategy you have tried does not work for you, I recommend that you learn about a different technique which could give you the results you’re aiming for.
