Filming on Test Tracks – Favourite projects from our videographer

by Jamie Gooderham on 10th March 2023

As an agency Capsule Marketing has grown and evolved with e-mobility and delivered a whole range of marketing solutions to the sector in this time. Our aim is to support our clients to reach and engage their audience to grow their businesses. We’ve worked on exciting projects, from branding to launching new EV products and services, marketing campaigns and video production/drone filming.

Our videographer recalls some of his favourite projects.

AVL Powertrain / Ford UK FCVGen1.0 project

As part of the Capsule Marketing video team, I have been fortunate enough to work on some pretty amazing video projects surrounding the EV and FCEV world. A stand-out project for me was having the opportunity to film on Ford’s own test track. We were involved with the filming of AVL Powertrain’s testing of their newest development, the Fuel Cell Battery Electric Transit. This was a huge stepping stone for the industry and was part of the FCVGen1.0 project, which, in partnership with Ford UK, involved developing a fully functioning light commercial fuel cell electric vehicle as part of the APC Advanced Route to Market Demonstrator Competition.

Capsule were appointed to film the vehicle through development right through to testing and capturing the end result. We were invited along to Ford’s own testing grounds to capture the vehicle in motion. This presented some challenges for our team but nothing that we weren’t able to overcome with our experience and expertise! With 3 licensed drone pilots on board, we were able to fully capture the testing experience in its entirety. Full details of the project can be found on our AVL case study page.

AVL Powertrain ADAS/AD Project

Another exciting project we were fortunate enough to work on, again with AVL Powertrain, was the ADAS/ADS Platooning Project. ADAS/ADS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems / Automated Driving Systems.

With autonomous driving involved, the project required comprehensive planning to ensure the safety of those involved whilst still being able to capture all the shots required. With many different manoeuvres to film during the testing programme, we set out with drones to capture it all from above and used animation to demonstrate the connectivity and communication between the two vehicles. Full details and the final video of the project can be found on our AVL case study page.

For me, the highlight of both of these projects was getting a glimpse of future technology. I wasn’t aware of these advancements, and to see it actually put into action was a real privilege. Seeing a fully functioning demonstrator of an automated driving system was mesmerising and is a testament to the great talent we have in the world.
